Sounds like something got bent, but there's really too little information in this post to assess.

Is the switch a little knob thingie built into the socket itself? If so, you're only talking about four or five bucks to replace the socket/switch combo. That's probably easier and safer than trying to fix the old one in place, assuming it's been bent or damaged in some way.

If it's another kind of switch--separate from the socket--it'll depend on the type of switch and how it's built into the lamp.
