I agree I cannot see a square wood post adding anything looks wise and certainly not performance wise.

They did not take them down, they boxed them in. I would consult a structural engineer as yours may be load bearing so boxing them in might be a solution.

You mentioned you will be remodelling, does that include other changes to the exterior, as the decision on white or wood and two vs three depends on that. If leaving facade as is, suggest white, updating to square and adding a third for a more balanced, finished look.

The rounded posts with capitals look out of place, and I agree with your desire to replace. The square posts that Maureen posted will look better, particularly with the square sidlelights around the front door.

Will cedar post compliment the other remodeling changes you will be making? Would suggest you coordinate all your changes so that you come out with a cohesive and better looking house.

I guess i should add both columns have some rot at the bases. we will be making changes just not all at once. i am willing to deal with things not matching until the end goal is completed
