It looks like this is also an outside entrance. Is it used much for that?

You might consider how a stacked unit lets you add lower cabinets and countertop. And perhaps that countertop could have a narrow shelf between it and the upper cabinets to hold the detergent bottles, kind of like you already have above the dryer.

btw, we started using collapsible mesh laundry baskets, which I really like, they save a lot of space. The former plastic laundry baskets have new life for the yard, holding beach towels, and in the car to keep grocery bags and other stuff from shifting around.

I would choose a stacked W/D with more countertop with lower drawers/cupboards in the room, over having upper cupboards every time. I think you'd find that configuration much more convenient.
