Please help estimate the cost of cabinet door resizing

We're currently updating our kitchen appliances to SS. As shown in the picture, we'd like to add a built-in microwave on top of the double oven. It seems obvious that we'll need to resize the cabinet doors to a smaller size in order to make space for the new microwave.
So my question is how much it costs to replace the cabinet doors in the red rectangle with smaller ones? And our cabinet doors are made of solid wood (although I don't know exactly what kind of wood they are) and with white paint.
We're not handy. So we probably have to hire somebody to do the job.
Thanks.

A lot depends on what area of the country you live in. Best way to get a true estimate is to take the photo and measurements to a few cabinet makers. Also take in one of the doors so they can see the design. Keep in mind that there will also be additional costs to match the existing color if they're custom cabinets. Besides two doors, you'll also need a shelf above the microwave. Are you sure you want a microwave that high? Seems it would be a little dangerous pulling out hot food at that level. |

Thanks for the response. There're actually a shelf above where the microwave is supposed to be. We just need to resize the doors. Any ball park estimates? I think the material of cabinets is just oak painted white. Also, the microwave would be a lot lower than it seems in the picture. It would be totally handlable. |

| I know a company you can call for a quote, I used them myself on a bathroom project. contact Taylor Cabinet Door Company. You'll need the opening size of your cabinet less the size of the microwave, ask for a paint grade door type. You'll have to ask them if they would be able to color match your existing cabinet color. |

| Unfinished paint grade doors from a cabinet door company will probably run you around $100 each. The labor is what will cost you on this project. I'd expect the labor to be between $300-$500, depending on locale. This would be a fairly easy DIY job for someone who owns a screw driver and can wield a paint brush. However, I'd really caution you on the safety of having a MW located that high up. It IS an issue that you need to be aware of. It'll be LOT more difficult to clean, requiring the uses of a step stool to reach. It's too high to safely pull out hot beverages. It's well outside the average human's comfort reach zone unless you're 7' tall. It'd be downright dangerous for kids or shorter adults and your insurance company might not be that happy with you in creating such a safey hazard in your home. |
