what to do about the stair case?

| I am planning to remodel the floor and a couple of other area in the house. One option is to replace the porclain tile floor with travertine in beige(light or medium) tone throughout downstair. I am also thinking of replacing the stair balusters with dark wrought iron ones.
My question is what to do with all the other white painted parts of the stair especially these 4 steps at the cornor expansion of the stair(as shown in the picture and I don;t know what to call it).
Will it be a good idea and is it do-able to stain the post/rail/starting step/tread to dark tone? And how big the job will be if I need to hire someone to do it?
I am new to the forum and would really appreicate your suggestions and comments. Thanks, anita

| Everything related to the staircase in the picture is white all the way up including the two bullisters. Will not question your decision to change what appears to be a very nice staitway. One option would be to paint everything that is now white, black. |

| I am about to refinish my wooden floors and since I am going darker, I had to make a decision on my light wood newels and rail plus my white peg ballusters. So, I am changing it all out to dark box newels with wrought iron balusters. I have hired a contractor to coordinate everything so it will be mostly completed over spring break when we are out of the house. I would remove the expansion step area of 4 and replace it with drywall and trim. I am attaching a few of the photos I am using for inspiration. Hope it helps!
