I know this doesn't really answer your question, but frankly, I would decorate the children's rooms the way I would if they were located more privately. As one whose children are now 35 and 29, believe me, you'll have plenty of time to coordinate those rooms with the rest of the house later on. Just shut the doors when company comes, and let them decorate their private space as they want.

I agree with deeinohio. Kids rooms should be anything they want. They're only little for such a short time. Although if the color they're in love with is hurt-your-eyes obnoxious and one could only deal with just one wall of it, then the wall the door is on is a good choice as you'd have to enter the room and turn around to see it.

I'm still a bit worried about all the color (dd#1 wants purple, dd #2 and 3 want pink, and ds wants green). I am leaning more towards compromise now though. ;)
