Pottery Barn Samantha Bench and Wall Shelf:Will This Work For Me?

I have a two-room bathroom with the toilet and tub in the back windowed room (it's about 5 feet by 6 feet), and the double sink in a room about the same size that is "in front" of the tub/toilet room. I'm thinking of using the Pottery Barn 50" Samantha entry hall storage bench and wall shelf unit in this room. Since the rooms are separated by a door, steam really isn't an issue. We have a terrible lack of storage in my house, so the bench would hold towels and the wall shelf would keep towels in use by my four daughters, plus the cubbies would store their make up, hair brushes, etc. I would probably not buy the baskets for the bench or the shelves. I plan to buy the two pieces in black.

Has anyone used a bench/wall shelf system in their bathroom? JC Penney sells a comparable unit, but I worry that the construction isn't as sturdy, plus the PB pieces are 8" wider and we need all of the storage we can get. What about the black finish? Finally, does anyone ever see these pieces on sale? If so, how much could I save--I'm very willing to wait. However, after looking at several other styles from various on-line retailers, I'm set on Pottery Barn, for reasons of quality (or the quality I perceive).

CupoKindness, I have the wall shelf from the the JC Penny set and it is very heavy and durable. I actually picked it up at a JC Penny Outlet Store for 20.00, which was a steal.

We had the PB bench and shelf in red, but we used it in our entryway and not a bathroom. I wouldn't recommend using it with the baskets that PB shows it with. Pulling those baskets in and out every day started to chip away at the painted finish of the bench. Other than that, we really liked it.

Thanks jbill and roobear for your replies. On Cyber Monday, the JCP knock-off of the Pottery Barn set was $179! And free shipping to boot. I missed it however. But I did buy the Caroline bench on the JCP website for $149. Today it popped back up to $199. I guess it really pays to watch things and wait for the bottom price, which to me for the Caroline bench (probably for the PB knock-off bench as well, which is called the Clark bench). That price has bobbed up and down with various free shipping offers and %-off prices for many months.

Several of the reviews on the JCP on-line catalog page warned against sliding the baskets in and out of the bench and shelves without first gluing felt to the bottom of the basket. If I use this, I'd store towels in the bench and put things on the shelves with smooth or soft edges.

Roobear, what a deal on your shelf! Wow!

All in all, I'm still not convinced that this is the best thing to put in such a small area (the room measures about 5 by 5.5 feet), but it solves a couple of storage problems in a nice looking way.

Any other thoughts?

Hi,

Does anyone have the HANGING INSTRUCTIONS for the PB Samantha shelf that is part of the PB Samantha shelf and bench set? My shelf arrived without any instructions and I have not been able to get a response from PB. If anyone has this, your help will be greatly appreciated!
