We tested out a Sunpentown Mr. Induction in our old house, and still use it for tabletop cooking.

We have the Circulon. circulon induction burner We bought it so we could try it out before committing to an induction cooktop. We love it, and we look forward to having induction in our remodeled kitchen.

If you want a more powerful portable cooktop there is no beating the Cooktek line of induction portables. They go up to 3,500 watts and can have up to 100 levels of adjustability in cooking levels. They are very high quality.

I have the Max Burton portable unit. It was $100, 1800 watts, works pretty well. Fan is a little noisy, and it would have been better if it had more than 10 settings, but I can't complain for this price for a ''temporary'' appliance.

I have an Iwatani -- a commercial unit like CookTec. I found a used one at a restaurant supply store. The newer models are sleeker, but mine is effective and responsive.
