DCS Rangetop question on hot surface

I've just installed a 48" DCS Rangetop with grill/griddle in my newly renovated kitchen. Having never worked with this style of unit before in the home, I have a question on surface temperature.
Yesterday when seasoning the griddle I noticed that the side trim that sits on the counter and the front upper lip from griddle to grill got exteremely hot. I was under the impression that the residential versions of these were well insulated in this regards. I'm just worried about a child touching the front of the nit and burning themselves(or me!)
Any input from those with experience let me know if this is normal.
