hardwood floor repair question

Allie

We needed half the hardwood floor in our kitchen replaced after a dishwasher leak. The floor crew installed the new wood going in the opposite direction, meaning the tongue and groove is on the opposite side of the existing floor causing them to have to nail the wood on top where old meets new. The floor is 3 1/4 wide white oak with a very light hand-scrape. Aside from a line of nail holes on top of the wood where new meets existing floor, would you expect the stain/poly to look different with the wood (and grain?) running the opposite direction? I have concerns about how it turned out, but wanted to ask for input. The existing/old wood install is fairly new and it’s water based poly. I expected the new wood to look slightly different but it’s very different and I wonder if the grain direction is the issue. I greatly appreciate any feedback.
