The proportions of your space seem tailor made for some type of linear light fixture.

Agree with the linear fixture idea, but I'd go with a black finish:

Any of those fixtures with the exposed bulbs and glass shades are not going to provide a good quality of light.

What about this one?

I like the fixture you have...I would lower it to appreciate it more.....what do you dislike about it ? your rooms need ceiling can lights probably dimmer capability. Discretionary after basic function of better upgraded lighting is completed.

herbflavor, I would like more of a statement piece for the area. We have installed can lighting thru our the kitchen/dining room that are in dimmer switches. Maybe I'll try to lower it and see what it looks like. Thank you

Linear would look good. Some of these recommendations swing way too ultra modern for your space. It'd look really good with the option that has the black wire lantern and what appears to be a few wood elements - that ties in the table and is a nod to the wood trim around the windows. Definitely go with one of the ones with some traditional shape. It ties in far better with your other furniture and the kitchen as a whole.

There are many different linear chandeliers that might work with your dining room table and chairs. Since you have some black, it might be nice to try a chandelier that has some black in it as well. Below are a few different linear chandeliers that we have used in our designs:
